I’m back with the best of them…

It’s time to cut to the chase.

The blog has been not unlike this wintery afternoon… still, silent and a little sluggish.

 

It’s always in the back of my mind, rearing its head as soon as I close my eyes.

And I have to be honest; my blogging mojo sort of ran away from me.

It’s not because I lack motivation or the words but because I did the most ridiculous thing and listened to people’s negativity…

And then I did something even MORE ridiculous.

I actually believed it.

But I’m happy to say that after some time away to reconstruct the damage with some PVA glue and tonnes of glitter… I’m back for good.

We all do find ourselves a bit hazy at times, stumbling around when our blurry brain box gets in the way and you should never feel guilty about taking time out.

When I take time out, I run to my first love… Film.

So I want to share with you five fearless Heroines that you need to get acquainted with immediately.

Grab a ludicrously large cup of tea and let’s pick up where we left off…

 

1. Bliss Cavender, Whip it!

Bliss saw something alien, out of her comfort zone and just DID IT. She didn’t question whether she was good enough or doubt herself for one second. She practised hard, won over her competitors and her confused mother with her sheer determination. Trust me, you will find yourself researching local Roller Derby squads just so you can hang out with Bliss-minded people.

2. Mallory Knox, Natural Born Killers

No, No… I’m not saying her lifestyle choices are particularly solid…

Mallory is physically strong but she could shatter anything in her wake with just her words. She exists as a part of a duo but it’s clear she would do just fine on her own. The looks of vulnerability that she flashes in between spouts of pure explosive passion shows how she fights her fears head on. She is not afraid to love with every ounce of her being, putting together the most beautiful metaphors for how she feels.

She is also super-talented; her singing scene in the prison will take your breath away.

3. Penny Lane, Almost Famous.

Penny’s life is a mystery and she likes to keep it that way. She is the girl you can tell all your problems to and makes you feel better instantly with her chilled, carefree attitude. Take it from her; you need to surround yourself with positive people to lead a positive life. She understands when enough is enough and leaves to pursue a new adventure. Was she scared? Sure, but that didn’t stop her.

4. Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls.

Cheeky, quick, hilarious, smart…

Lorelai is a cocktail of awesome. You can always rely on her to crack a sarcastic comment or a one-liner when things get a little too serious and rough. But don’t let her fool you, if you’re going a little of track, she is sure to put you back on the straight and narrow. She is the fictional mum we all want and aspire to be. She created her wonderful life all on her own and she shows that if you don’t particularly get along with your family, you can build your own with your friends.

5. Enid Coleslaw, Ghost World

Enid is the outsider, the underdog. She shows us just how hard it is to move on and deal with change. She constantly questions why life must have certain steps that we all adhere to.

You will take great pleasure in just observing her interactions with others, listening to her unique whimsical conversations.

Even when Enid is on her own, she never lets up. She is proud of who she is and shows that we all make mistakes, it’s just how you come back from them that counts.
